Sometimes you walk around like a walking zombie. You step on a lego...you try to drink some coffee, but for whatever reason, you are just in a funk. Your sleep cycle is off and you don’t know why. So now that you are a new parent, let’s get your sleep game back up to par!

These Simple Steps Will Help You Land A Great Night’s Sleep Any Day Of The Week

Getting the sleep you need and getting the sleep you want are two different issues for new parents. By now, you probably know how much sleep you want to get to function normally during the day. For most adults, it’s 6-9 hours of sleep. But for new parents, it’s whatever you can get during the day!

  1. Sleep like a baby and take naps. You’ve probably heard to sleep when your baby sleeps. That makes a ton of sense, but keep it short or loooong. What do we mean? If you’re going to nap longer than 30 minutes, you might as well make it 1.5 hours or 3 hours, or else you will risk waking up super groggy.
  2. Keep moving, no matter what. When you become a new parent, it’s easy to say sayonara to your fitness routine, but it’s more important than ever to keep moving. What do we mean? Well, if you can’t get to the gym, do a 4-minute Tabata-style workout.
  3. Get together with your fellow dads and hang. There’s nothing better than having a compadre going through what you’re going through right at the same time. There’s comfort in the brotherhood of fatherhood.

Pick At Least ONE THING From This List To Help You Get Better Sleep

The reality is that your bedtime as a new parent is whenever you can find time. Sometimes that means falling asleep in a rocking chair or on the floor by your baby’s bed. The important thing is you try to get as much sleep as you can.

To help ya, here are a few things you can adjust to make things a TON easier to get to bed:

  • Turn your phone off at night, not down or low...off
  • Make sure that room is super dark and you will have a great natural sleep aid
  • Turn the AC down to as cold as you can stand it (or your AC bill will allow)
  • Score a warm blanket from the closet (we prefer Woobies)
  • Try a guided sleep meditation, one of our favorite apps is Headspace
  • Dab some essential oils for sleep under the back of your ears - peppermint is pretty awesome to help reduce stress and relax the body
Follow just a few of these tips and you will sleep like a…

     well...you get it.
